The Super Bowl is first-and-foremost for football fans. But, you certainly don't need to know how to toss around pigskin to appreciate the amazing advertisements nestled in between plays and timeouts. Super Bowl ad budgets are historically higher than those for any other marketing efforts made throughout the year; and often times they're created with the help of famous movie directors. This sets the event up as not only an athletic competition but a fight to see which company can come up with the funniest, most memorable ad.

Even before this year's Super Bowl Sunday, all signs pointed to Honda for a spot they created for their sister company, Acura's forthcoming NSX hybrid-power super sports car. Given the fierce, sexy ride isn't expected to hit Acura showrooms for another few years, the ad really had to have lasting impact.

How did Honda do it? By casting Jerry Seinfeld and a few other recognizable characters from the timeless sitcom. The spot even features a cameo appearance made by a famous late-night comedian.

No, we're not referring to Letterman. We'll give you a clue: Both Seinfeld and the cameo are known car enthusiasts... a fact which definitely lends legitimacy to the ad.

In addition to playing the leading role, Seinfeld is reported to have made substantial creative contributions to the final cut. The primary director of the 2012 Super Bowl spot, however, is none other than Craig Gillespie, famed for the wildly successful "Betty White" Snickers ad.
