2011 is shaping to be a great year for Honda, despite the terrible disaster that struck Japan in March. Not only have Honda's sales jumped to huge numbers so far in 2011, but now the Japanese automaker has, once again, received an amazing honor from the Union of Concerned Scientists. They have named Honda to be the 'Greenest Automaker' for the fifth straight year.
The Honda Civic GX (soon to be the 2012 Honda CNG) was also named to be one of the Greenest Vehicle of 2011 by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy.1 The Civic GX is able to run entirely on compressed natural gas, which is becoming an increasingly popular alternative fuel option.
The Honda Civic Hybrid, which boasts a fuel economy of 40 mpg city/ 43 mpg highway, is another great vehicle for those looking in the alternative fuel market. It is friendly to both the environment and the consumer's wallet. Even Honda SUV's receive top of the line gas mileage of 22 miles per gallon highway, 16 mpg city.2
Honda's lineup also showed an increase in sales of 18.9%. Top models in sales include:
- The Honda CR-V,which posted record sales for a second straight month, with an increase of over 42% - that's over 21,000 vehicles sold!4
- The Honda Fit, which posted 43.4% gain in sales. This is believed to be because of its base MSRP around $15,000.3
