With gas prices climbing as high as they have been recently, people are starting to turn to a wide variety of alternative fuel options for their vehicles. Now, Honda is preparing to give consumers one more choice when shopping for their next car, with the Honda CNG. What does CNG stand for exactly? Civic Natural Gas - that's right, the Honda Civic can now be powered by natural gas.
Honda has actually been working on a natural gas version of the Civic since the 1980's. More specifically, the vehicle was originally sold as the Civic GX in 1988, according to Green Car Report.1 It looks like the Japanese auto maker finally got it right. And, they could not have picked a better time to bring it to the market.
This time around, you'll hardly be able to tell the difference between the Civic Natural Gas and other Civic models. Its only distinguishing features will be its special CNG badge, and slightly less trunk space, which is taken up by the natural gas tank. The 2010 version of the Civic Natural Gas was able to travel 180 miles per tank. And while there is no word on how far the 2012 model will be able to travel, we are guessing it will be better than that.
