The Fourth is just around the corner. And for many Americans that means taking a road trip to get together with friends or family. Given that it will be one of the heavier traffic periods of the year, our Brandfon Honda staff thought it was a good time to go over to some travel stats related to Independence Day.

  1. Good news, with the holiday landing on a Thursday, it looks like fewer folks -- a mere 40.8 million -- will be traveling more than 50 miles this year. Of that slice of travelers, only 34.4 million will be on the road. Ok, so that's still a pretty large crowd, but it is down .7 percent from last year's numbers.
  2. For those of you looking to get a head start, you may need to get going a little earlier than expected. Nearly a third of the vacationing population is planning to depart on the third of the month. With all those motorists out there, you'll have to get up pretty early to see an open road.
  3. You might also consider stretching your holiday out a bit longer. Almost 40 percent of road-trippers should be making their way home on Sunday, July 7. But hey, do you really need a better excuse than that to take an extra day away from work?
  4. Finally, the average American journey this July will cover over 600 miles roundtrip. That's an awful lot of ground to cover in just a few days.
