Have you ever found yourself tirelessly researching used cars in Branford and decided to just give up and let your kid pick one out on eBay?

Probably not, and though that's not exactly how it went down, a Portland resident recently turned his smartphone over to his 14 month-old daughter and found himself the proud owner of 1962 Austin-Healey Sprite shortly thereafter.

Paul Stoute is a hobbyist so he cruises eBay from time to time just to see what kind of old cars are available for auction. There's certainly nothing wrong with passing a little time scanning through vintage rides on the internet. However, when you pass your smartphone off to your baby, with your eBay account information stored and ready to go, you could run into a little hot water.

Stoute's daughter, Sorella, ended up placing the winning bid on the Sprite, and given the looks of the car, Paul probably could've found a better way to part with $225 of his hard earned money. However, he decided to hold onto it, and instead of killing time by looking at old cars, he'll now spend his leisure hours reassembling one. The plan is to have the vehicle up and running by the time Sorella turns 16.

When you examine the facts, it's not entirely uncommon for parents to purchase used cars for their kids. The only notable departure in this tale is the fact that the one year-old Sorella, likely can't even say "car" yet, let alone drive one. Given the relatively low financial hit, though, it should make for a great story in the Sorella family for years to come.
